The League offers numerous volunteer opportunities for those who are looking to become more involved with your HHSO!
Here are highlights of our volunteer opportunities. Whether you prefer a leadership role or a behind-the-scenes one, we need you!
Computer Skills
Helps to maintain member information, tracks volunteer interests, and produces reports upon request. Produces name tags for events. Familiarity with Excel, Word, and Mail Merge is appreciated.
Swing FORE the Symphony Golf Tournament
This fundraiser will be held on November 2, 2026, at Wexford Golf Club. An informal breakfast is served during registration, and a reception and silent auction follow the golf.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Planning committee, auction solicitors, day of tournament volunteers, as well as golf foursomes, help with tournament promotion and player sign-up.
Spring Fundraiser
An annual fundraising event is held every spring, usually in March. Events have included luncheon or cocktail party/fashion shows and Kitchens of Note tours.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Planning committee, sponsor/auction solicitations, day of event volunteers.
SoundWaves
Located at 7 Lagoon Road, Soundwaves houses the Orchestra’s offices and hosts numerous performances, including the Supper Club, Summer Chamber Music, and the Jazz Festival.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Usher, ticket scanning.
Events are scheduled for various days of the week and start at 7:30 pm, with volunteers arriving at 6:00 pm. Most events are over by 9:30 pm. This is a fun opportunity to hear performances for free and meet other League members, as well as performers and attendees.
Post-Concert Receptions
Receptions are held after some HHSO concerts – usually on Monday evenings – and are an opportunity to get together with other attendees and orchestra members while enjoying delicious treats and beverages.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Reception captain: Makes phone calls to League members to provide and deliver several dozen cookies; oversees the event.
Food preparation, server, setup, clean up.
Musicales
These are intimate and unique concerts; most are held in private homes.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Home host: Volunteer your home. Prepare savories and sweets. Help with parking.
Symphony Under the Stars
The Orchestra offers two free outdoor pops concerts each season, one in the fall and the other in the spring. Concerts are held in Bluffton and at Celebration Park near Coligny Plaza. Volunteering for these events supports the League’s goal of increasing outreach into our community.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Greeter, raffle ticket sales.
Concours d’Elegance
The League supports this multi-day motoring festival with volunteers who drive golf carts throughout the event.
International Piano Competition
League members can volunteer to host competitors. Members are also needed to usher during performances.
Newsletter/Writing
This volunteer gathers information from committee chairs and edits it for our seasonal newsletters.
New Member Ambassador
This volunteer welcomes new members and encourages their participation in League activities.
Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome new members, familiarize them with volunteer opportunities and League events, and introduce them to other members. Help committee chairs with finding volunteers for events.
Youth Liaison
This volunteer seeks opportunities for the League to be involved with youth music programs in the community. It requires a strong knowledge of the Symphony’s youth programs and the ability to communicate with and involve local music educators in those programs. The Youth Liaison may ask for League volunteers to staff youth events, for example, the HHSO Spring Youth Concert.
Last Minute/CALL ME
Often, there are last-minute requests for help at League or Symphony events. Some examples: staffing the HHSO/League table at community events, serving or cleaning up at a League- sponsored event, and supplementing the ushering crew at large performances.
