ABOUT THE SYMPHONY
From the Executive Director
Welcome to the 27th season of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. The 2008-2009 season focuses on the work of the great masters. We offer wonderful compositions of composers such as Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Bach, Sibelius and more. Our Mozart Fest in January will feature the Forte String Quartet from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Ran Dank, 2008 Hilton Head International Piano Competition Winner. In February we bring you the music of the great Benny Goodman and the brilliance of Simon Mulligan performing Mendelssohn. Our season finale will feature Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
We are excited to again offer minimum of two concerts in the Bluffton area. Thanks to the Beaufort County School District for allowing us the use of Bluffton High School’s Auditorium and to the town of Bluffton for their support of our Bluffton series.
This year we celebrate the beginning of Mary Woodmansee Green’s eleventh season with our orchestra. Under her guiding hands we have gone from a small group of classical music lovers to a highly rated symphony orchestra. The Orchestra, under her direction will again bring a level of passion and quality to the Low Country that is seldom found outside of Metropolitan Performance Halls
A special “Thank You” to the town of Hilton Head for their continued support. We also owe the First Presbyterian Church our sincere thanks for allowing us to use the church as our performance hall. Finally, our gratitude goes out to our donors, patrons, sponsors, members of the Board of Directors and staff and our orchestra musicians for making this one of the premiere organizations in the country. Their support allows us to support our youth through our outreach into the public schools and the development of talented young musicians through our Youth Orchestra.
We hope you enjoy the “Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra”. Please tell everyone about your experience.
Sincerely,
Mary M. Briggs
