HILTON HEAD ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT: ENGLISH ROMANTICS

The Hilton Head Orchestra will perform two major pieces which emerged from World War I and II:  Britten’s 1943 radio drama rooted in Homer’s Odyssey, and Elgar’s 1918 elegy for a lost age entitled Cello Concerto in a concert entitled, “English Romantics,” on Monday, November 15 at 8 pm at the First Presbyterian Church.

Principal Cellist, Glenn Fischbach, is the featured soloist.  Fischbach is beginning his sixth season as principal cellist of the Hilton Head Orchestra.  He also performs regularly in the cello section of the Philadelphia orchestra.  A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he has appeared throughout the U.S., Europe and Russia as soloist and chamber musicians.  He currently spends summers performing and teaching at the Lake Luzerne Music Center in upstate New York.

Megan McCombs will narrate Britten’s The Rescue of Penelope.  Voices for the dramatic music will be Heidi Bindhammer, Soprano; Fannie Levy, Alto; Alan Lathan, Tenor and Tim Reynolds, Baritone.

Recommended reading for additional insights into this concert are Homer’s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fagles or the play written by Nobel Prize winner, Derek Walcott.

Cellist Glenn Fischbach & the Solo Quartet will be joining Maestra Mary Woodmansee Green at the November 15th Monday with the Maestra at 1:30 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church for this Lecture/Meet the Artists event.  Tickets are $15 per person and $5 to Full Series Subscribers and include the 3:00 to 5:30 Dress Rehearsal of the evening’s concert in the Sanctuary.

Tickets for the “English Romantics” Concert are $20, $25 & $30 and may be purchased by calling the Hilton Head Orchestra Box Office at (843) 842-2055.  Master Card and Visa accepted.  Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
