HHYO Concerto Competition

 Since
2000, the HHYO has sponsored a Concerto Competition which is run under the
auspices of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. It is open to students grade 12 and below as of the date of the live audition.

HHYO Concerto Competition Guidelines |
| Eligibility |
Musicians playing orchestral instruments or piano currently in grade 12 or below. Eligible candidates must provide letters from both parents/guardians, and private music teacher giving them permission to perform in the Concerto Competition. |
| Audition Piece |
The selection must be a recognized solo with orchestral accompaniment, even if not properly titled 'concerto,' and it must be a work for which score and parts are currently available. It must be between 6 and 10 minutes in length (no transcriptions) and may be edited to meet the time limitation. |
| Music |
Performer must provide three original copies of the audition music with application. Applicants will provide a CD of his/her performance with piano accompaniment at the time of application. (Due by December1, 2008) |
| Accompanist |
Performer must provide a piano accompanist. A list of local accompanists is available from the competition director. |
| Judges |
The panel will consist of Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Music Director, Mary Woodmansee Green, and two professional musicians. |
Application Fee
A $30 non-refundable fee must accompany the application |
Prizes*
First Prize - $500 and a solo performance with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra
Second Prize - $300 and a solo performance with the Hilton Head Youth Orchestra
Third Prize - $100
Repertoire for the solo performances will be at the discretion of the Music Directors
* Any or all of the prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Judges.
* Repertoire, dates and times of the solo performances will be at the discretion of the Music Directors.

Applications Due
Pre-Registration
Applicants must submit an on-line pre-registration form by November 15, 2008.
Final Application
Applicants must submit CD, 3 copies of the solo music, a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian AND your instrumental teacher, and a $30 check (payable to HHSO). All materials must be received by the Competition Director no later than December 1, 2008.
Please print out/fill out the pre-registration form on line and print out a copy. Prepare a letter, signed by your parent or guardian and instrumental teacher which gives their permission for you to participate in the competition. Mail the signed permission letter along the copy of your pre-registration form, 3 copies of your solo music, a CD of your solo with piano accompaniment and the $30 application to:. Finalists
Finalists will be eligible to perform with their accompanist at TidePointe on Hilton Head Island on Saturday January 17, 2009. Finalists will be selected by a blind screening of the submitted CD's. Finalists will be notified by December 20, 2008 of the time of their performance at TidePointe. All finalists will be notified of the results by email by January 30, 2009.
