 MUSINGS FROM THE MAESTRA
Welcome to our 26th season of providing superb music with world-renowned performers and outstanding first chair players as soloists! America has meant new life, freedom, and opportunity for countless immigrants throughout our nation’s history. This year we present the “The Dream of America” as the theme of our Master Series concerts, with each concert featuring music reflecting this passionate theme.
Our series begins with AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, continues with MEN AND THE MILITARY, moves on to Nielson’s and Beethoven’s powerful INEXTINGUISHABLE and FIFTH Symphonies, with some Viennese “bons-bons” for good measure! January brings our annual January Fest – this season exploring the music of Aaron COPLAND and George Gershwin, both born to immigrant parents, each celebrating American in their unique style. Winter brings TALES FROM THE EAST – both the far East and Eastern Europe and three centuries of ROMANTICS. In spring we revel in Orff’s lusty settings on life, love and wine, CARMINA BURANA.
The culmination of the season will be Peter Boyer’s ELLIS ISLAND: THE DREAM OF AMERICA. Described at its premier as “a searing emotional experience”, Boyer’s moving piece tells the story of seven immigrants who came to America between 1908–1940, with dramatic music, actors and projections.
Our “melting pot” society has been immeasurably enriched by the contributions of immigrants from all over the world who have come to our shores for a better life. Through their music, we honor them and celebrate their success. Their rich musical heritage will come to life with our marvelous musicians playing electrifying music celebrating our vast and beautiful country.
Bring your own stories to our “Dream of America” season. We promise to inspire, delight and enchant you.
See you at the Symphony!
