Symphony Under the Stars, one of the most anticipated events of the HHSO season, took place April 3 and 4 at Honey Horn Plantation. To those attending on either night of perfect weather, “Music Under the Stars”, designed and conducted by new Music Director John Morris Russell, was an evening of classic and contemporary Broadway music with soprano and tenor soloists—a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Armed with balloon-decorated baskets, League members selling prize tickets cajoled patrons into lightening their wallets for the chance to win a variety of prizes. Local businesses were generous with their donations, and the evening netted over $4,000. On both mornings volunteers, under the direction of Gloria Daly, prepared the tables. In the evenings they checked in guests, sold raffle tickets, tended bar, and cleaned tables at the end of the performances. Kudos to all who helped make these events so successful.
Set aside April 9 and 10 for the 2013 Symphony Under the Stars. Music Director John Morris Russell will lead the HHSO in “At the Movies” with music from the greatest movies of all time.
